A Gynaecologist & Obstetrician (often called an OB/GYN or "gynae" doctor) looks after women's reproductive and pregnancy health. The gynaecology side treats menstrual problems such as irregular, heavy or painful periods, PCOS, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, vaginal infections and white discharge, infertility, and menopausal symptoms, while also performing routine screening like Pap smears and ultrasound. The obstetric side cares for pregnant mothers — antenatal (ANC) check-ups, managing high-risk pregnancies and gestational diabetes, and planning normal or caesarean (C-section) delivery. In Bangladesh, women also commonly see them for contraception advice, family planning, and post-delivery care. A typical consultation includes a discussion of your symptoms and menstrual or pregnancy history, a physical examination, and often a bedside ultrasound; the doctor may advise blood tests, hormone panels or imaging before prescribing treatment.
