Magaldrate + Simethicone

Magaldrate + Simethicone is a antacid with antiflatulent medicine available in Bangladesh under many brand names. Below are its uses, dosage, side effects and precautions — and all brands with their current prices.

• Relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and symptoms of hyperacidity.
• Symptomatic relief of dyspepsia and gastritis-like burning discomfort where an antacid is appropriate.
• Relief of bloating, fullness, and abdominal discomfort associated with excess gas.
• May be used as supportive symptomatic treatment in gastro-oesophageal reflux or peptic ulcer disease when advised by a healthcare professional.

Adults generally take Magaldrate + Simethicone after meals and at bedtime, or when symptoms occur, according to the product label or the prescriber’s advice. Chewable tablets should be chewed well before swallowing. Suspension should be shaken well before each dose. The exact dose and frequency depend on the strength, formulation, symptoms, and the patient’s medical condition; do not exceed the recommended dose and consult a doctor if regular use is needed for more than a short period.

• Common: constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach cramps, chalky taste, or mild abdominal discomfort.
• Less common: loss of appetite or changes in bowel habit.
• With excessive or prolonged use, especially in kidney disease: high magnesium levels, aluminium accumulation, low phosphate levels, weakness, confusion, bone problems, or worsening kidney-related complications.
• Serious but rare: allergic reaction such as rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or breathing difficulty; seek urgent medical help.

Use caution in people with kidney disease, low blood phosphate, dehydration, bowel obstruction symptoms, chronic diarrhoea or constipation, or in elderly or frail patients. Do not ignore alarm symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood, or black stools. Use during childhood should follow medical advice. Use Magaldrate + Simethicone under the guidance of a registered doctor or pharmacist, especially if symptoms are frequent, severe, recurrent, or if other medicines are being taken.

• Antacids can reduce the absorption of many medicines; separate dosing from other medicines as advised, commonly by at least 2–4 hours.
