Tablet
Vonliv 10 10 mg Tablet
Generic: Vonoprazan
Manufacturer: Opsonin Pharma Limited
Therapeutic class: Potassium-Competitive Acid Blocker (P-CAB)
What is Vonliv 10?
Vonliv 10 10 mg tablet is manufactured by Opsonin Pharma Limited and contains Vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) — a newer class of acid-reducing medicine than the familiar proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Vonliv 10 is used for acid reflux, erosive oesophagitis, peptic ulcers and as part of H. pylori eradication therapy.
Vonoprazan works by blocking the potassium-binding site of the stomach's proton pumps in a reversible, competitive way. Unlike PPIs, it does not need acid activation or a pre-meal timing, so it starts suppressing acid rapidly — often from the first dose — and maintains strong, stable acid control throughout the day and night.
Indications
Vonoprazan is used for:
- Erosive oesophagitis (reflux oesophagitis) — healing and maintenance of healing
- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — relief of heartburn and regurgitation
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers — including ulcers associated with low-dose aspirin or NSAIDs in some countries
- Helicobacter pylori eradication — combined with antibiotics, where its strong acid suppression improves eradication rates
Because it is a newer medicine, indications may vary between countries; your registered doctor will decide whether Vonliv 10 suits your condition.
Dosage & Administration
Commonly used adult doses of Vonliv 10:
- Erosive oesophagitis: 20 mg once daily for up to 4-8 weeks; maintenance often 10-20 mg once daily
- Gastric/duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily, typically 6-8 weeks as advised
- H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily with antibiotics for 7-14 days
Vonliv 10 can be taken with or without food, at roughly the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water. The precise dose and duration must be decided by a registered doctor. Use in children is limited and should only follow a specialist's weight-based prescription.
Side Effects
Vonoprazan is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects:
- Common: constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache
- Less common: rash, itching, raised liver enzymes, dizziness
- Potential with prolonged use: as with other strong acid suppressants — gut infections, low magnesium and reduced vitamin B12 absorption; long-term data are still accumulating since this is a newer class
Contact a doctor promptly if you develop yellowing of the eyes or skin, severe rash, persistent diarrhoea, or any allergic symptoms such as facial swelling or breathing difficulty.
Precautions & Warnings
Precautions for Vonoprazan:
- Tell your doctor about liver problems — dose adjustment or extra monitoring may be needed
- Before starting, alarm symptoms (weight loss, vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing) should be evaluated, as strong acid suppression can mask gastric malignancy
- Use the shortest effective duration; long-term need should be reviewed periodically
- Strong acid suppression may increase susceptibility to certain gut infections such as Salmonella and C. difficile
- As a newer medicine, report any unexpected reactions to your doctor
Drug Interactions
Vonoprazan interactions to know about:
- Acid-dependent drugs: markedly reduced absorption of atazanavir, rilpivirine, itraconazole, ketoconazole and some iron preparations
- CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers: drugs such as clarithromycin may raise vonoprazan levels, while rifampicin-type inducers may lower them
- Clopidogrel: interaction appears less significant than with omeprazole, but inform your doctor
- Digoxin: levels may rise with reduced gastric acidity; monitoring may be advised
Provide your doctor and pharmacist with a full list of your current medicines before starting Vonliv 10.
Contraindications
Vonoprazan must not be used when:
- There is known hypersensitivity to vonoprazan or any component of the tablet
- The patient is taking atazanavir or rilpivirine-containing medicines, whose absorption depends on stomach acid
It should be used cautiously, only under medical supervision, in patients with significant hepatic impairment and in the elderly. As experience in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children is limited, use in these groups requires a doctor's careful benefit-risk assessment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Human data on vonoprazan in pregnancy are very limited because it is a newer medicine. It should be avoided unless a doctor decides the expected benefit clearly outweighs potential risk; better-studied alternatives are usually preferred during pregnancy.
Lactation: Vonoprazan passes into milk in animal studies, and human data are lacking. Breastfeeding mothers should generally avoid it, or a doctor may advise temporarily stopping breastfeeding if treatment is essential. Always consult your doctor before using Vonliv 10 while pregnant or nursing.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablet in its original blister pack until the moment of use. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the packaging, and avoid storing in hot or humid locations such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Vonliv 10 different from a PPI like esomeprazole?

Vonliv 10 contains vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) — a newer class than PPIs. It blocks acid pumps directly and reversibly without needing acid activation, so it works faster (often from the first dose), lasts longer through the night, and can be taken without regard to meals. PPIs such as esomeprazole need a few days of dosing before food to reach full effect. Your doctor will decide which class suits you better.

How quickly will Vonliv 10 relieve my heartburn?

Because vonoprazan does not require acid activation, Vonliv 10 suppresses stomach acid strongly from the first day, and many patients feel noticeable relief within the first one to two days. Complete healing of an inflamed food pipe or an ulcer still takes weeks, so continue the full prescribed course even if symptoms disappear early. If you feel no improvement after several days, consult your doctor again.

Do I need to take Vonliv 10 before meals like other gastric medicines?

No. Unlike conventional PPIs, which work best 30-60 minutes before breakfast, Vonliv 10 can be taken with or without food at any time of day, because vonoprazan acts on the acid pumps directly regardless of meal timing. The most important thing is to take it regularly at roughly the same time each day, exactly as your doctor prescribed.
