Benzolet 1.25 gm/5 ml lotion by General Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is a topical antiparasitic medicine containing Benzyl Benzoate. In Bangladesh, it is mainly used on the skin for scabies and, where appropriate, lice infestations.

Benzyl Benzoate helps kill mites and lice by acting as a toxic agent to these parasites. A key caution is to avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, mucous membranes, broken skin, and inflamed skin because it can cause irritation.

• Treatment of scabies infestation.
• Treatment of lice infestation, such as head, body, or pubic lice, when recommended by a healthcare professional.

Adults should use Benzyl Benzoate exactly as directed on the product label or by the prescribing doctor. For scabies, it is generally applied to clean, dry skin over the affected areas and often the whole body below the neck, then washed off after the advised contact time; repeat application may be needed if the doctor recommends it. For lice, it is applied to the affected hairy area and washed out after the directed time. Specific contact time, dilution, and repeat treatment depend on the preparation, strength, age, and skin condition, so follow medical advice.

• Common: temporary burning, stinging, itching, redness, dryness, or skin irritation at the application site.
• Itching may continue for some time after successful scabies treatment due to allergic irritation from dead mites.
• Less common: rash, contact dermatitis, blistering, or worsening skin irritation.
• Serious: allergic reaction such as swelling, severe rash, dizziness, or breathing difficulty; seek urgent medical help if these occur.

Use with care in children, older adults, people with sensitive skin, eczema, open wounds, severe inflammation, or secondary skin infection. Do not apply to eyes, mouth, genital mucosa, or broken skin, and do not swallow. Wash hands after application unless the hands are being treated. Household contacts and contaminated clothes, towels, and bedding may also need management to prevent reinfestation. Use under a registered doctor's or pharmacist's guidance.

• Avoid using other irritating topical products, medicated soaps, strong cleansers, alcohol-based products, or abrasive scrubs on the treated area unless advised.

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, use Benzyl Benzoate only if recommended by a doctor after weighing benefits and risks. Store at room temperature away from excessive heat, direct sunlight, and open flame. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date or if the product has changed appearance or smell.
