Xtracal-OT 400 400 mg tablet by Pharmasia Ltd. is a calcium supplement available in Bangladesh. It contains Calcium Orotate and is mainly used to help prevent or treat calcium deficiency and to support bone health when dietary calcium intake is inadequate or a clinician advises supplementation.

Calcium Orotate provides calcium, an essential mineral needed for bones, teeth, muscles, nerves, and normal blood clotting. A key caution is that excessive calcium intake can cause high blood calcium levels or kidney stones, especially in people with kidney disease or a history of stones.

• Prevention or treatment of calcium deficiency when intake from diet is inadequate.
• Supplementation in people with increased calcium needs, when recommended by a healthcare professional.
• Adjunct support in osteoporosis or osteopenia management, alongside diet, vitamin D, exercise, and prescribed therapy as advised.

Adults should take Calcium Orotate only as directed on the product label or by the prescribing doctor. Calcium supplements are commonly taken with food to improve tolerance. The appropriate dose depends on age, diet, pregnancy or lactation status, kidney function, vitamin D status, and other medicines being used. Do not exceed the recommended dose unless a doctor advises it.

• Common: constipation, bloating, gas, nausea, stomach discomfort.
• Possible with excessive intake: increased thirst, frequent urination, loss of appetite, weakness, confusion, or irregular heartbeat due to high calcium levels.
• Kidney stones may occur in susceptible people.

• Large amounts of bran, phytate-rich foods, or oxalate-rich foods may reduce calcium absorption if taken at the same time.

• Known hypersensitivity to calcium or any component of the product.
• High blood calcium levels or conditions causing hypercalcemia.
• Severe hypercalciuria or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones unless specifically supervised by a doctor.
• Severe kidney impairment without medical supervision.

Calcium is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but supplements should be used only when needed and at doses advised by a doctor or pharmacist.
