What is Verivo 5?

Verivo 5 5 mg tablet by Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is a heart failure medicine that contains Vericiguat. In Bangladesh, it is mainly used on a doctor’s prescription for selected adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction after a recent worsening episode.

Vericiguat works by stimulating soluble guanylate cyclase, helping the nitric oxide pathway to relax blood vessels and reduce strain on the heart. A key caution is that it can lower blood pressure and must not be used during pregnancy.

Indications

  • To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction after a recent worsening heart failure event, such as hospitalization or need for intravenous diuretics.

Dosage & Administration

The usual adult treatment is started at a low once-daily dose taken with food, then gradually increased at intervals as tolerated to the target maintenance dose. The exact dose, titration schedule, and whether to pause or adjust treatment depend on blood pressure, symptoms, kidney function, other medicines, and the prescribing doctor’s assessment. Do not start, stop, or change the dose without medical advice.

Side Effects

  • Common: low blood pressure, dizziness or light-headedness, nausea, headache, and anemia.
  • Serious: symptomatic hypotension, fainting, severe dizziness, or symptoms of significant anemia such as unusual tiredness, shortness of breath, or paleness.
  • Seek urgent medical help for severe allergic symptoms such as swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, or widespread rash.

Precautions & Warnings

Use with caution in people with low blood pressure, recent fainting, dehydration, severe kidney impairment, dialysis, severe liver impairment, or those taking other medicines that lower blood pressure. Blood pressure and anemia may need monitoring. Women who can become pregnant should use effective contraception and follow the doctor’s instructions. Use this medicine only under the guidance of a registered doctor or pharmacist.

Drug Interactions

  • Other soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat: must not be used together.
  • PDE-5 inhibitors such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil: not recommended because of increased risk of low blood pressure.
  • Nitrates, nitric oxide donors, and other blood-pressure-lowering medicines: may increase dizziness or hypotension; medical supervision is needed.
  • Take with food to improve absorption. There is no well-established specific food to avoid, but alcohol may worsen dizziness or low blood pressure.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy.
  • Concomitant use with another soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, such as riociguat.
  • Known hypersensitivity to vericiguat or any component of the formulation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Vericiguat must not be used during pregnancy because it may harm the unborn baby. Women of reproductive potential should have pregnancy excluded before treatment and use effective contraception during treatment and for the period advised by the doctor after the last dose. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment because it is not known whether the medicine passes into human milk and there may be risk to the infant.

Storage Conditions

Store tablets at room temperature in a dry place, away from excess heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep in the original pack, out of reach of children and pets. Do not use after the expiry date or if the tablets appear damaged.
