What is Nabunil 500mg?
Nabunil 500mg 500 mg tablet by Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is a medicine that contains Nabumetone. It is mainly used in Bangladesh to relieve pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Nabumetone is an NSAID prodrug that is converted in the body to an active substance which reduces prostaglandins, chemicals involved in pain and inflammation. A key caution is that it can increase the risk of stomach bleeding, kidney problems, and heart-related events, especially with higher doses or long-term use.
Indications
- Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis.
- Relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
Dosage & Administration
For adults, Nabumetone is usually taken by mouth once daily or in divided doses as prescribed. The dose, timing, and duration should be decided by the doctor based on the condition, age, kidney and liver function, and other medicines. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. Dispersible tablets should be prepared exactly as directed on the product label or by the pharmacist.
Side Effects
- Common: indigestion, heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, gas, dizziness, headache, and fluid retention.
- Serious: stomach or intestinal bleeding or ulcer, vomiting blood, black stools, severe allergic reaction, wheezing or asthma worsening, chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke-like symptoms, kidney problems, liver injury, severe skin reactions, and unexplained swelling or weight gain.
Precautions & Warnings
Use caution in people with a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney or liver disease, asthma sensitive to aspirin or NSAIDs, bleeding disorders, dehydration, or in older adults. Avoid using more than prescribed or combining with other NSAIDs unless advised. Use Nabumetone under the guidance of a registered doctor or pharmacist.
Drug Interactions
- Other NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and high-dose aspirin, may increase side effects.
- Anticoagulants and antiplatelet medicines such as warfarin, heparin, clopidogrel, and aspirin increase bleeding risk.
- Corticosteroids, SSRIs, and SNRIs can increase the risk of stomach bleeding.
- ACE inhibitors, ARBs, beta blockers, and diuretics may have reduced blood pressure effect and increased kidney risk.
- Lithium and methotrexate levels or toxicity may increase.
- Cyclosporine or tacrolimus may increase kidney toxicity risk.
- Alcohol can increase stomach irritation and bleeding risk.
Contraindications
- Known allergy to nabumetone or any component of the medicine.
- History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Active stomach or intestinal bleeding or active peptic ulcer disease.
- Use for pain around coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
- Third trimester of pregnancy.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Nabumetone should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless a doctor decides it is necessary. NSAIDs may harm the unborn baby, especially from around 20 weeks of pregnancy, and are contraindicated in the third trimester. It is not clearly known whether nabumetone passes into breast milk in significant amounts, so breastfeeding mothers should use it only after medical advice.
Storage Conditions
Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the medicine in its original container and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
