What is Maxpro?
Maxpro 20 mg is Renata's esomeprazole brand, one of the leading acid-suppressing medicines in Bangladesh. Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and provides effective, long-lasting control of stomach acid.
It is prescribed for GERD, ulcers and other acid-related disorders.
Indications
- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive oesophagitis
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- NSAID-associated ulcer prevention
- H. pylori eradication (with antibiotics)
- Zollinger–Ellison syndrome
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 20–40 mg once daily, at least one hour before a meal. Treatment usually lasts 4–8 weeks for healing, with the dose adjusted by your doctor.
Swallow whole — do not crush or chew the tablet.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
- Headache
- Nausea, abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Flatulence, dry mouth
Long-term use carries the same considerations as other PPIs (B12, magnesium, bone health).
Precautions & Warnings
Caution: See a doctor before long-term use. Seek urgent care if you have alarm symptoms — unintentional weight loss, repeated vomiting, difficulty swallowing, blood in vomit or black stools. These need investigation, not just acid suppression.
Drug Interactions
Esomeprazole may interact with clopidogrel (reduced effect), ketoconazole/itraconazole (reduced absorption), diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin and methotrexate.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other PPIs; concurrent use with rilpivirine.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only when necessary and advised by a doctor. Caution during breastfeeding — limited human data.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
Frequently Asked Questions
Maxpro vs Seclo — which one should I take?
Both are effective acid reducers. Seclo is omeprazole and Maxpro is esomeprazole. Your doctor will choose based on your condition, severity and response — do not switch on your own.
Can I stop Maxpro suddenly?
Stopping a PPI abruptly after long use can cause rebound acidity. Doctors often taper the dose gradually. Ask your doctor for a step-down plan.
