Hyginol 3 gm + 300 mg/100 ml solution by Millat Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is an antiseptic solution containing Cetrimide + Chlorhexidine Gluconate. In Bangladesh, it is mainly used for external cleansing and disinfection of skin and minor wounds, as directed by a healthcare professional.

Cetrimide + Chlorhexidine Gluconate works by damaging microbial cell membranes; cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic and chlorhexidine gluconate is a broad-spectrum antiseptic with residual activity on the skin. A key caution is that it is for external use only and should be kept away from the eyes, ears, mouth, and other sensitive tissues unless specifically advised.

• External antiseptic cleansing of minor cuts, grazes, abrasions, and superficial wounds.
• Skin disinfection before minor procedures or dressing changes when an appropriate product strength is selected.
• General first-aid antiseptic use on intact or mildly broken skin, as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional.

For adults, use only on the skin and follow the product label or the doctor’s instructions, because dilution and frequency depend on the strength and intended use. Apply gently to the affected area with clean hands, cotton, or sterile gauze; rinse off if the label or clinician instructs. Do not use on large, deep, or serious wounds, burns, body cavities, or for prolonged periods unless a doctor specifically advises it.

• Mild stinging, burning, dryness, itching, or redness at the application site.
• Skin irritation or contact dermatitis, especially with repeated use or sensitive skin.
• Rare but serious allergic reaction to chlorhexidine, which may include rash, swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, dizziness, or collapse; seek urgent medical help.
• Chemical irritation or injury if used in the eyes, middle ear, brain/meninges, or other sensitive tissues.

Use with care in people with a history of allergy to antiseptics, eczema or very sensitive skin, infants, and patients needing treatment over large areas or open wounds. Avoid contact with eyes, ears, mouth, genital mucosa, and deep wounds; do not swallow or inject. Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation, rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, or worsening infection occurs. Use under a registered doctor's or pharmacist's guidance.

• Soap, detergents, and anionic cleansing agents can reduce the antiseptic activity of chlorhexidine and cetrimide; rinse soap residues off before application if advised.
• Do not mix with other antiseptics or disinfectants, such as iodine-containing products, unless a healthcare professional recommends it.
• Chlorhexidine may cause brown stains on fabrics if they are later exposed to hypochlorite bleach.
• No important food interactions are expected because this medicine is for external use only.

• Known hypersensitivity or previous allergic reaction to chlorhexidine, cetrimide, quaternary ammonium compounds, or any ingredient of the product.
• Use in the eyes, middle ear, brain/meninges, or other sites where chlorhexidine is contraindicated.
• Use as an injection, oral medicine, or internal body-cavity wash.

When used externally on small skin areas as directed, systemic absorption is expected to be low. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, avoid unnecessary prolonged use, large areas, or application to the breast/nipple area unless advised by a doctor. If applied near the breast, wash the area thoroughly before feeding to prevent the infant from swallowing it.

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat, and flames. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, and do not use if the solution looks contaminated or the container is damaged.
