Fitaro 1 Injection 1 mg/.5 ml Injection
Generic: Semaglutide
Manufacturer: Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Dhamrai Unit)
Therapeutic class: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist — antidiabetic / weight management (specialist supervised)
What is Fitaro 1 Injection?
Fitaro 1 Injection 1 mg/.5 ml injection from Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Dhamrai Unit) contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Doctors prescribe it for adults with type 2 diabetes, and in carefully selected patients for medically supervised weight management. It is a powerful prescription medicine — not a casual slimming product to be bought and used on one's own.
Semaglutide copies a natural gut hormone called GLP-1. It prompts the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar is high, reduces the sugar-raising hormone glucagon, slows the emptying of the stomach and acts on appetite centres in the brain. The result is lower blood sugar, less hunger and gradual weight loss, and in studies it also protected the heart in people with type 2 diabetes.
Indications
Fitaro 1 Injection may be prescribed by a doctor for:
- Type 2 diabetes in adults, with diet and exercise, when other medicines are not enough or when weight and heart risk also need attention
- Chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight with weight-related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea — always combined with diet and physical activity and only under medical supervision
It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it is not meant for cosmetic slimming in people of normal weight. The decision to start, the goal of treatment and the target dose all rest with your doctor.
Dosage & Administration
The dose of Fitaro 1 Injection is highly individual: treatment starts at a low dose and is increased slowly by your doctor over weeks to months to limit nausea. Never adjust it yourself.
- Oral tablets must be taken on an empty stomach as soon as you wake, with up to half a glass (about 120 ml) of plain water — then wait at least 30 minutes before any food, drink or other medicines. Swallow whole; do not split or chew.
- Injection forms are given once weekly, on the same day each week, exactly as taught by your doctor or nurse.
- If you miss a dose, follow the specific instructions for your product or ask your doctor — never take a double dose.
Side Effects
The most common side effects are digestive, especially when starting or increasing the dose:
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation, indigestion, burping and reduced appetite — these usually ease over weeks
- Tiredness, headache or dizziness
- Low blood sugar when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea
Less common but important: dehydration from repeated vomiting (which can strain the kidneys), gallbladder problems (pain in the right upper abdomen, sometimes with fever or yellowing), and rarely pancreatitis — severe persistent stomach pain radiating to the back. Rapid sugar improvement can temporarily worsen diabetic eye disease, so report vision changes. A lump in the neck, hoarseness or trouble swallowing should also be reported promptly.
Precautions & Warnings
Key precautions with Fitaro 1 Injection:
- Do not use it as a casual slimming drug. It must be prescribed after proper medical assessment; buying it informally or using someone else's pen for quick weight loss is dangerous.
- To ease nausea, eat smaller meals slowly, avoid very fatty or spicy food and stop eating when full; drink enough fluids, especially if vomiting occurs.
- Tell your doctor about any history of pancreatitis, gallstones, thyroid problems or diabetic eye disease (retinopathy) — extra monitoring may be needed.
- If you plan pregnancy, tell your doctor well in advance; the medicine is usually stopped about two months before trying to conceive.
Never stop or restart Fitaro 1 Injection on your own — your doctor manages the schedule.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about everything you take. Important interactions of Fitaro 1 Injection:
- Insulin and sulfonylureas (e.g. glimepiride, gliclazide) — combined use raises the risk of low blood sugar; their doses are often reduced.
- Because Semaglutide slows stomach emptying, it can change how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed — medicines with narrow margins, such as levothyroxine or warfarin, may need closer monitoring.
- If you use the oral tablet, take it alone on an empty stomach and wait at least 30 minutes before any other medicine, including thyroid tablets and antacids.
Also mention any herbal weight-loss products, as combining them is unsafe and unnecessary.
Contraindications
Do not use Fitaro 1 Injection if:
- You are allergic to Semaglutide or any other ingredient
- You or a close family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma, or you have the rare syndrome MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2)
- You are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding
Fitaro 1 Injection is not a treatment for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It should be used with great caution, and only on specialist advice, in people with previous pancreatitis or severe stomach and bowel disease. If a severe allergic reaction occurs — swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing — stop the medicine and seek emergency care.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Fitaro 1 Injection must not be used during pregnancy — animal studies suggest possible harm to the baby, and weight loss itself is unwanted in pregnancy. Because semaglutide stays in the body for a long time, doctors usually advise stopping it about two months before trying to conceive; effective contraception is recommended during treatment. If you become pregnant while using it, stop the medicine and contact your doctor promptly so diabetes care can be switched, usually to insulin.
It is not known whether semaglutide passes into human breast milk, so it is not recommended while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for a suitable alternative during this period.
Storage Conditions
Storage depends on the form of Fitaro 1 Injection, so always follow the pack instructions. As general guidance:
- Tablets: store below 30°C in a dry place away from sunlight and moisture, in the original blister; do not keep them in the bathroom or kitchen.
- Injection pens: unused pens are usually kept in a refrigerator (2–8°C) — never frozen — and a pen in use may be kept as directed on its label; keep the cap on to protect from light.
Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children, never use the product after its expiry date, and ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medicine and needles safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stop Fitaro 1 Injection when I feel better?

No. Whether Fitaro 1 Injection was prescribed for diabetes or for weight, its benefits last only while treatment continues. Stopping on your own lets blood sugar climb back silently, and most people regain lost weight within months if the medicine is stopped without a maintenance plan. Semaglutide also needs proper tapering decisions around pregnancy, surgery and other illnesses. Always let your doctor decide if, when and how to stop — never simply abandon the doses.

Is Fitaro 1 Injection a slimming drug that I can take on my own to lose weight?

No — and this is important. Semaglutide is a powerful hormone-based prescription medicine, not a cosmetic slimming product. It is meant for type 2 diabetes and for obesity treated under medical supervision, after checking your history of pancreatitis, gallbladder, thyroid and eye disease. Using it casually — borrowed from a relative, bought without a prescription or from unverified online sellers — risks severe vomiting, dehydration, gallstones, pancreatitis and dangerous interactions, and counterfeit products are common. If you are concerned about your weight, see a doctor for a proper plan first.

How should I take Fitaro 1 Injection tablets, and why on an empty stomach?

Semaglutide is a fragile protein-like molecule, and only a tiny amount survives the stomach — food, drinks and other medicines reduce that further. So take the tablet as soon as you wake, on a completely empty stomach, with no more than half a glass (about 120 ml) of plain water. Then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else or taking other medicines. Swallow the tablet whole. Weekly injection forms are different — they are taken on the same day each week, with or without food, as your doctor teaches.
