Betamycin 100 mg + 500 mg/100 gm ointment by Supreme Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is a topical skin medicine containing Betamethasone + Neomycin Sulphate. In Bangladesh it is mainly used for steroid-responsive inflammatory skin conditions where bacterial infection is present or suspected, as directed by a healthcare professional.

Betamethasone + Neomycin Sulphate combines betamethasone, which reduces skin inflammation, redness and itching, with neomycin sulphate, an antibiotic active against some bacteria. A key caution is to avoid using it on fungal, viral or untreated skin infections, or over large areas or for long periods unless a doctor advises.

• Inflammatory skin disorders that respond to topical corticosteroids when secondary bacterial infection is present or likely.
• Short-term relief of redness, swelling and itching in infected or potentially infected eczema or dermatitis, when prescribed.

For adults, apply a thin layer to the affected skin as prescribed, usually for a short course and only on the area being treated. Do not cover with airtight dressings, use on large areas, or continue for longer than advised. The exact frequency and duration should be decided by the prescribing doctor according to the condition and response.

• Burning, stinging, itching, dryness or irritation at the application site.
• Allergic contact dermatitis or worsening rash, especially due to neomycin sensitivity.
• Skin thinning, stretch marks, visible small blood vessels, colour changes, steroid acne or increased hair growth with prolonged or inappropriate use.
• Worsening or masking of skin infection.
• Rarely, systemic steroid effects such as adrenal suppression may occur if used on large areas, broken skin, under occlusion or for long periods.
• Rarely, neomycin absorption from damaged skin may contribute to ear or kidney toxicity, particularly with extensive use.

Use with caution on the face, skin folds, genitals, broken skin, large areas, in children, elderly people, or people with chronic skin infection. Avoid contact with the eyes and do not use as an eye medicine. Do not use under occlusive dressings unless specifically advised. Stop and seek medical advice if irritation, allergy, worsening infection or no improvement occurs. Use Betamethasone + Neomycin Sulphate under a registered doctor's or pharmacist's guidance.

• Other topical medicines applied to the same area may increase irritation or alter absorption; separate use as advised.
• Occlusive dressings, tight bandages or nappies can increase corticosteroid and neomycin absorption.
• If used extensively on damaged skin, concurrent use of other aminoglycoside antibiotics or medicines with kidney or ear toxicity may increase risk.
• No important food interaction is expected with normal topical use.

• Known allergy to betamethasone, neomycin, other aminoglycosides, or any component of the preparation.
• Untreated viral skin infections such as herpes simplex, chickenpox or shingles.
• Untreated fungal, tuberculous or syphilitic skin infections.
• Acne vulgaris, rosacea or perioral dermatitis when used for these conditions.
• Use in the eye or on the eyelids unless specifically prescribed for that purpose.
• Application into the ear when the eardrum may be perforated, due to neomycin ototoxicity risk.

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, use only if a doctor considers it necessary. Apply the smallest amount for the shortest time and avoid large areas, broken skin or occlusion. If breastfeeding, do not apply to the nipple or breast area where the infant may ingest it; wash hands after application.

Store at room temperature, away from excessive heat, direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date or if the product looks contaminated or changed.
