What is X-Ray of Pelvis Modified Ferguson (M.F.) View?

The Modified Ferguson (M.F.) view of the pelvis X-ray is used primarily to assess the sacroiliac joints and the lower lumbar spine, particularly in cases of trauma or suspected pelvic fractures.

In this view, the patient is positioned with a slight oblique angle, tilting the pelvis forward at a 30–40° angle. This positioning allows for a clearer view of the pelvic ring and sacrum, helping to identify abnormalities such as fractures, dislocations, or degenerative changes.

It is commonly used when there are concerns about pelvic ring stability or sacroiliac joint disorders. No special preparation is required for this X-ray.

What to expect & how to prepare

An X-ray takes a picture of bones or chest structures in a few seconds. A radiographer positions you, asks you to hold still and briefly hold your breath for chest views. Nothing is injected.
