What is PORTABLE XRAY CXR AP?

A portable X-ray of the chest (CXR) AP (anteroposterior) is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to examine the lungs, heart, ribs, and other structures in the chest. In the ""AP"" view, the X-ray beam passes from the front (anterior) to the back (posterior) of the body, capturing detailed images of the chest.

This type of X-ray is commonly used to detect conditions such as pneumonia, heart failure, lung infections, fractures, or tumors. It is often performed in emergency settings or for patients who cannot be easily transported to a traditional X-ray facility.

What to expect & how to prepare

An X-ray takes a picture of bones or chest structures in a few seconds. A radiographer positions you, asks you to hold still and briefly hold your breath for chest views. Nothing is injected.

• Metal: remove jewellery, coins, belts and clothing with zips or hooks over the area, or change into a gown as advised.

• Bring earlier films: previous X-rays of the same area help with comparison.

A plain X-ray uses a small dose of ionising radiation. Tell the radiographer before the exposure if you are pregnant or think you might be.
