What is Impedance Audiometry?

Impedance Audiometry is a diagnostic test used to assess the middle ear's function, specifically the eardrum and the small bones in the ear (ossicles). It measures the impedance or resistance of the eardrum's movement in response to changes in air pressure.

This test helps detect conditions like middle ear infections, fluid buildup, eustachian tube dysfunction, and sensorineural hearing loss. During the test, a small probe is placed in the ear canal, which delivers sound and measures the eardrum’s response to pressure changes.
