What is HBs Ag?

The HBsAg test detects the Hepatitis B surface antigen, a protein on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), to determine if an individual is infected. It is used to diagnose both acute and chronic HBV infections or screen for infection in high-risk individuals.

A blood sample is drawn from a vein, and no special preparation is needed. A positive result indicates HBV infection, while a negative result suggests no infection or recovery.
