What is GTT 5th?

A 5-hour Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is rarely used but can help diagnose reactive hypoglycemia or other rare glucose metabolism disorders. After fasting for 8–12 hours, a fasting blood sample is taken.

The patient consumes a glucose solution (usually 100g), and blood samples are collected at hourly intervals for 5 hours. This extended monitoring identifies delayed or abnormal glucose and insulin responses.

Risks include nausea, dizziness, hypoglycemia, or bruising at the blood draw site. Proper preparation, including fasting and avoiding interfering factors like stress or medications, ensures accuracy.
