What is ETT?

ETT (Endotracheal Tube) is a medical device inserted into the trachea to maintain an open airway, often used during surgery or in emergencies. It ensures proper breathing in patients under general anesthesia or those with respiratory distress.

The tube is typically connected to a ventilator. The procedure is performed by trained professionals, and risks include airway injury, infection, and incorrect placement.

What to expect & how to prepare

Electrodes on the chest, arms and legs record the heart's electrical activity. The recording itself is painless; some tests record at rest, others during exercise or over a full day.

• Clothing: wear something that opens at the front, and avoid oily or moisturised skin so the electrodes stick.
• Medicines: bring your current medicine list. Do not stop heart or blood-pressure medicines unless the requesting doctor has told you to.
• Exercise-based tests: if your test involves a treadmill, ask the centre in advance about clothing, footwear and whether to come without a heavy meal.

A resting recording carries no known risk. Exercise-based tests are supervised by trained staff — tell them at once about chest pain, dizziness or breathlessness.
