What is Digital X?

A Digital X-ray of Flexion and Extension is an imaging procedure used to assess the movement and stability of the spine, particularly the neck (cervical spine) or lower back (lumbar spine). The patient is asked to move their spine into flexion (bending forward) and extension (bending backward) positions, while X-ray images are taken in each position.

This helps evaluate the alignment, mobility, and integrity of the spinal discs, vertebrae, and joints. It is often used to detect conditions like herniated discs, spinal instability, or degenerative changes.

Preparation typically involves removing any metal objects. Risks are minimal, with some discomfort from movement during the procedure.

A trained technician collects the required sample (commonly a blood draw, urine sample, swab or an imaging scan, depending on the test) and sends it to the lab for analysis. Most routine tests take only a few minutes to sample, with reports typically ready the same day or within 24–48 hours.
