What is Digital EEG?

A Digital EEG (Electroencephalogram) is a test that measures the electrical activity in the brain using electrodes attached to the scalp. It records brain waves, allowing doctors to assess brain function and detect abnormalities.

Digital EEG uses advanced computer technology to record, analyze, and store the electrical patterns more accurately than traditional methods. It is commonly used to diagnose conditions such as epilepsy, seizures, sleep disorders, brain tumors, head injuries, and neurological diseases.

The procedure is non-invasive, painless, and typically involves the patient being asked to relax or sleep while the test is being conducted.

What to expect & how to prepare

Small electrodes are placed on the skin to record electrical activity from nerves, muscles or the brain. Nerve studies use brief, mild electrical pulses that can feel like a tap or twitch.

• Skin: come with clean skin and avoid oil, lotion or powder on the area to be tested, as they interfere with the electrodes.
• Tell the staff about a pacemaker or implanted stimulator, blood-thinning medicines, or any bleeding disorder before the study starts.
• Medicines: do not stop your regular medicines unless the requesting doctor has told you to; mention what you take.

No ionising radiation is used. The pulses are brief and mild, though they can be uncomfortable.
