What is D?

D-Dimer is a blood test that measures fibrin degradation products, indicating clot formation and breakdown. It is commonly used to rule out conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Elevated levels suggest abnormal clotting activity but may occur in other conditions like inflammation or pregnancy. It is often combined with clinical assessment for accurate diagnosis.

What to expect & how to prepare

D is performed at a diagnostic centre or hospital lab. Most routine tests take only a few minutes to sample, with reports typically ready the same day or within 24–48 hours.
