What is Anti-SS-A?

The Anti-SS-A (Anti-Ro) test detects antibodies against SS-A proteins, which are part of a complex involved in RNA processing. These antibodies are commonly associated with autoimmune conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjogren's syndrome.

A positive Anti-SS-A test is particularly indicative of Sjogren's syndrome, where the body attacks moisture-producing glands, leading to dry mouth and eyes. It can also be present in lupus and neonatal lupus.
